Essential house rules in my vacation apartment
In all communities we find the typical annoying neighbor who complains about everything. As the chick from the famous meme would say: “it had to be said and it was said”. But if you have a tourist apartment what you need least is for your tenants to give your neighbors reasons to complain, so you need to establish some house rules.
How to communicate the house rules?
At least the most important ones you should reflect them in your apartment ads. And we're not just referring to basic instructions such as the time of entry or exit from the apartment, but also to the rules of coexistence elementary so that your tenants are comfortable and your neighbors too.
Communication is key to ensuring your clients understand the limitations of your vacation accommodation. Take a look at the post on how to inform your guests efficiently.
We already know that in many cities, bachelor and bachelorette parties have become a mess. If you want to spare your neighbors the ordeal of enduring drunks, noise, brawls, and even urine in common areas, and at the same time save yourself the embarrassment of your neighbors being red-faced with shame because of what your tenants do, you should consider whether or not to allow bachelor parties in your property. This information is important and should be included in your apartment's ads. Same with pets or if your establishment is an “adults-only”. However, upon arrival at the property, your tenants should have the house rules at their disposal. Better if it's in several languages, so no one has an excuse not to comply. Moreover, you can even impose sanctions in case the rules are not followed. For example, keeping the deposit if you have received complaints from neighbors.
What are the most common rules of coexistence?
In your property, you can establish the ones you want, but the most common are:
- Indicate the hours during which noise is not allowed (usually from 0:00 to 8:00 hours). To ensure compliance, you can use a noise sensor for your accommodation.
- Prohibition on organizing parties.
- Do not drag suitcases with wheels through common areas, lift them to avoid making unnecessary noise.
- Obligation to dispose of trash at the end of the rental period.
- No accommodation for more people than indicated to the owner.
- No pets allowed if not permitted.
- Keep the property in good condition.
- No smoking in the apartment or common areas.
It's also important that you inform your tenants about the rules that govern within the neighborhood community, so you can leave them a copy of the statutes.
The natural place to write all these rules is in a welcome book.
In most cases, your tenants will be educated people who don't need to be reminded of basic rules of coexistence, but it's never too much to leave them in sight so that any distracted person can review them. Additionally, over time, you will get to know the different traveler profiles for tourist apartments that exist and you will be able to target only those that you know will not cause any problems or bother the neighbors. And so... everyone happy!
